About Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia occupies four-fifths of the Arabian Peninsula, with a space area of more than 2,250,000 km2. With a varied terrain, the narrow Western plains on the Red Sea coast, the Tihamah plains; to the East of the Red Sea Coast are the mountains ranges, stretching along the country (Hijaz & Asir Mountains); the desert and rocky plateaux in the middle; the largest desert An Nafud in the North: the Empty Quarter, Rub Al Khali in the South, and the wide Eastern coastal plains extending along the Arabian Gulf Coast.

Saudi Arabia is located at the furthermost part of South-West Asia.  It is bordered by the Arabian Gulf, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain & Qatar in the East; the Red Sea in the West; Iraq & Jordan in the North; Yemen & Oman in the South.

Saudi Arabia National Day

Saudis annually celebrate their national day on the 23rd of September, to commemorate the unification of the Kingdom and its founding by His Majesty King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, may Allah (God) have mercy on him, in 1351 AH, (1932 AD).

Saudi Arabia Currency

The basic currency unit in Saudi Arabia is the Riyal.

Saudi Arabia Calendar Date

Saudi Arabia’s official calendar is based historically on the migration of the Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah. The Hijri year is 354 days, divided into twelve lunar months.

Saudi Arabia Climate 

The climate of Saudi Arabia varies from one region to another. Generally, the climate is continental; hot in summer and cold in winter with some winter rainfall. 

There is a moderate climate change on the West & South highlands, while the Central regions are hot & dry in summer and cold & dry in winter. 

Along both the Western & Eastern coastal regions, the climate is mild in winter with rising temperatures & humidity in the summer. 

Rain falls in winter & spring and is rare in most regions of Saudi Arabia with the exception of the South-Western highlands where the seasonal summer rains are heavier than in other areas. 

Humidity is high, on the West coasts & mountains, on most days of the year but lessens towards the interior.
